Canal Restriction Extended

The Canal and River Trust has announced that work to rebuild a bridge that collapsed on the Caldon Canal will take longer than expected. Bridge 37, which is just below the Hazelhurst Locks, had to be demolished when it was damaged during work on the adjacent lock. A £2m project to rebuilt the bridge has been ongoing for the past few months. During the final phase passage through the lock has been restricted.

It was expected the restriction would be ended in mid-May but that has now been delayed until mid-June. Because of the extra time taken to get through the locks, trips on Beatrice are currently all going towards Consall and Froghall, enabling passengers to enjoy the lovely scenery in that direction, with the bonus of maybe passing a steam train along the way.
